Hi

Just came across 'Quicksella' as birthplace of a relative in 1809, Dromore, Down. Google search shows nothing, wondering if this might be a property rather than a village, any ideas or input greatly appreciated. Family name I am searching is Dale and I suspect the family may be Church of Ireland.

Cheers :-)

  • Quicksella doesn’t feel very accurate. (You don’t get many Q words in Irish). It sounds like a mistranscription of something else.  There’s a Coolsallagh in Dromore, that could just about fit.

It’s more likely to be a townland name, as very few house sin Ireland had names in the period you are looking at.

1834 tithe records there was just one Dale farm in Dromore. That was John Dale in Ballymacormick. None in the parish in Griffiths Valuation c 1860.

Dromore Church of Ireland records start in 1784. Have you searched for a baptism there? Rootsireland has some years records for that parish. There’s a full copy of the records in PRONI in Belfast.
