William Magill died around 1831 and wife Jane died 1849. Possible marriage around 1808. Can't find any birth records in normal channels. Is there any way to find out who amd how many were their children?

Many Thanks

  • Do you know what denomination they were?

Incidentally someone else has asked me about this family recently (Rhonda). Is there a connection?

  • Gerald,

Sorry my mistake. It is Cheryl who contacted me. Mixed some names up. I have been looking at some records in PRONI for her. I am going to go and look for graves tomorrow in Killyleagh, Annahilt and Hillsborough. I’ll also take a few photos, to give you both a flavour of what the areas are like.

I have found a William Magill in Hillsborough (wife Jane Maginiss) who married there in 1807 but I am not sure it’s your family. The problem is that William & Jane Magill are pretty common names. I suspect there’s more than one family here.  I have also found a James Magill of Loughagery who was a brewer. He died in 1846. Not sure where he fits in.

But I’ll let you know how I get on shortly.

  • Gerry,

The Maginnis connection sounds as though I may have found the right parents then. I didn't see a Daniel baptism (though I found 2 siblings). I'll look again, just in case I missed it.

  • I have additional information on this family, particularly about those who settled in Victoria, Australia, but I see that this post is just over a year old.
