I have just learned that my gg-grandfather, HUGH O'HARE, was from Kilpatrick, County Down. He was likely born around 1795-1805. He married HANNAH BURNS, born about 1805, in Ireland. They were ROMAN CATHOLIC.

They emigrated to Canada, probably around 1828. One daughter, born in Ireland, died on the voyage. The next child, also female, died in infancy and is apparently buried somewhere around Tyendinaga, County Hastings, Ontario. I can account for the next five children. The last child, a female, burned to death playing around a fire.

Hugh (1795-1805) died prior to the 1851 census as Hannah was listed as a widow. My g-grandfather Hugh (1841-1927) left Canada and settled in the Titusville, Pennsylvania area in the USA.

I would love to learn anything about any of the O'Hares from the Kilpatrick area and their descendants. My dad used to say that my brother is the 7th Hugh which would mean that that the father and grandfather of Hugh (1795 - 1805) were likely also named Hugh.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me. Sincerely, Sarah O'Hare Amy

  • There?s quite a number of places called Kilpatrick in Ireland but none in Co Down. Closest there is probably Seapatrick, which is a parish. If that?s where the family came from, then unfortunately the RC parish records only start in 1843, so you won?t find Hugh?s baptism.

Hugh O?Hare is a fairly common name in Co Down. There?s quite a few of them on the Ros Davies Co Down site:
