Hi everyone,
I have been searching for years on my 'brick wall' family member, my 2nd Great Grandfather Henry Arthur McKean. I have information about his life once he left Ireland, of which has given me clues about his birth date and birth county, but I would love to know what parish he was from, and his parent's names and any siblings if possible. This is what I know so far:
Henry Arthur McKean (possibly McKeane)
Born 1841 in Dublin (as per New Zealand marriage and death certificate)
Left Ireland on the ship 'Cyclone' bound for New South Wales on 4th May 1847. He was a 2nd Steward and age was noted as 21, however he would have only been 16.
Once he arrived in Sydney he deserted ship and a warrant was placed for his arrest. For the next 10 years or so he was in various prisons in New South Wales for cheque forgery etc and by 1879 he was in New Zealand and had married Lydia Mary Flower - noted on his marriage certificate that he was a widower by then.
His occupation was a 'Draper' and he died in 1898 in Auckland, New Zealand.
In all of the documents I have found, it has only mentioned he was born in 'Dublin', with no further information. Being born in 1841, his birth is outside the civil registration dates, and not knowing what Dublin parish he was from, I have not been able to find out any further information on his family. Can someone please help?
When he married in New Zealand he had 3 children, of which may provide clues to possible family names if it helps - his children were Clinton Irving McKean, Selwyn Arthur Lyndhurst McKean and Vera Stubbersfield McKean (Stubbersfield was his mother in law's maiden name).
Any information at all on Arthur, or possible parishes in Dublin the McKean name or varations of are from, would be much appreciated!
Thanks
Marie

Marie:
www.irishgenealogy.ie is a free site which has Dublin church records. I searched for Henry McKean and Arthur Kean but did not find any records that were likely. I also searched for Henry Kean and there are possible records in the period 1828-1829. You mention an 1841 year of birth but you then say he was 16 when he left Ireland in 1847.
In any event, you may want to search the site and see if you find any records of interest.
