Looking for information on Nicholas RUSSELL born about 1862 before coming to Liverpool with his family.

Mary A. RUSSELL born about 1865.

MIchael RUSSELL born about 1839

Michael married Catherine Riley.

They appear on 1871 census in Liverpool listing their birthplace as Ireland.

Family legend has it they came from Blackrock.

I have a feeling Michael signed a petition against closure of Kil O the Grange cemetry.

Regards

John Russell

  • John:

You may want to search www.irishgenealogy.ie which is a free Irish government site which has Dublin church records both RC and C of I.

  • The child to start with would be Mary, if her age is accurate then she was born just after the start of civil registration. There are a few birth registrations for the name, but none that I can find in Rathdown district which would cover Blackrock Co. Dublin.

Are you certain that the Blackrock mentioned is the one on Co. Dublin ?
There are at least two others - Cork and Louth.

  • the parents for that 1861 Nicholas Russell are matching Nicholas and Maria - so not the immediate family, but might possibly be related, given that the surname was not that common, and the baptism was in the parish where you Russell family seem to have lived around the same time.

  • Looks like Mary's age is slightly underestimated on that 1871 Lancashire census as there's a likely baptism for her in 1863 in Blackrock RC parish, South Co. Dublin on RootsIreland (pay-website). There is a baptism for a Nicholas Russell listed in 1861, but parents dont match Michael or Catherine/Kate etc..

Given Michael's occupation of gardener, I suppose it's possible he had to move around for work
