  • I've come across this name in my research; think that Eve c/b nickname for Louisa, Grattan fits with some records, but why would my grandfather take the name Francis Harris in place of John Geoffry???It doesn't make sense to me.

He told my mother he left Ireland in 1893 under duress due to a girl/boy/catholic/protestant situation. Her name was (C?)Sissy Doyle. He stayed aboard ship working on the boilers & sailed around the world for 10 yrs before grounding himself in New York City. The 1st US recordof him is 1905 NYS census. I can find no ship records for him. My cousins say it was the Cunard line he worked for. How can I get employee records from them? Is that possible?

This obituary was kept in a photo album by my uncle for some unknown reason; Sir Osmond Grattan Esmonde died today, July 22,193(torn off). Prominent Republican (torn) of the Dail.

The last bit of info I have is this note found in his papers;    for baptism information & certificate write to Father Nolan, PP, Ballow Tullow, county Carlow, Careow. It was dated Sept.27,1891.

I even wrote to Sir Bartholemew Esmonde in 1999 to no avail. He did write a short note back saying he knew of no connect between his family & my grandfather.

This is long-winded, sorry, I've been at this for a long time. Thanks again, Gloria V. Esmonde Fleming.
