Hello from Perth Western Australia,

My name is Michael and I'm wishing to trace any relatives of John Bardon who was born about 1829 Dublin and migrated to Australia and settled in Melbourne, in the state of Victoria. He was married to Margaret Bardon, nee Murphy and I have an 1860 birth record registering the birth of a son James to the couple which gives John's age as 29 and Margaret's as 26years.

John Bardon's occupation is shown as "tanner" on this birth record.

Hoping someone may be able to help,

Best wishes,Michael

  • Hi Michael www.irishgenealogy.ie has baptism/marriage/burial records for Dublin. What denomination were your ancestors & did John marry in Ireland or Australia?

Civil registration only arrived in Ireland in 1864 so civil certs only available from then.

There is a baptism of a John Barden in St Marys Pro Cathedral Dublin 15th may 1839 to Father John Barden & mother Anne.- Sponsors James Farrell & Ellen Walsh. Dont see anything for early 1830's.

  • Hi Frances, thanks for your reply.

don't know the denomination but the surname is spelt with an "on" not "en" as in my name. My Grandfather decided to spell his name with the "en" when he met up with my grandmother and started his second family. Interesting story!

His wife Margaret Murphy was from Kilkenny. Unfortunately this is all the info I have.

    Regards,

    Michael
