First Time user.  I am looking for the Birth Record, Parents and Family of My Great Grandfather William Hugh Mullen maybe spelled Mullin.  The storey in our Family is that he came to Australia as a result of the Potato Famine.  He was married in Emu Plains New South Wales and stated on his marriage certificate that he was born in 1839 and came from Dublin.  He was illiterate.  I have no information of which parish he came from.

From shipping records I found a William Mullen arrived in South Australia on the ship Europa in 1855 but have no idea if this is the william Hugh Mullen I am searching for. Thank you

  • G'Day Rory,  Thank you for the information you sent me.  Many apologies for my late reply.  I have been able to get in contact with other descendants of William Hugh Mullen who believe that William Hugh came from Drogheda Louth.  I guess that William Hugh, on his marriage certificate, named Dublin as the place he came to Australia from as he sailed from there.  Could you tell me the best place to search for shipping records of the time of the potato famine?  Should I now list the name of William Hugh Mullen in the parish of Drogheda Louth in Irish Reaching Out in order to find his parents names? I will check the websites you sent me for him in Drogheda now I have that Information.

Thank you for all the help

    Best Wishes

    Christyne
