I know that my great grandfather was Christopher Lennon (born abt 1864) in Co. Dublin, and that his wife was Bridget. I have just learned that her surname might have been Tait or Taite. I have been told that their marriage took place at Rathdown on 1/11/1887. I would be thrilled to discover that this is true, but I am reluctant to just accept the details without any evidence. I have left an Ancestry message for the person who tells us this, but not had a reply. I am just hoping that someone might have access to this marriage record, and be willing and able to let me know if there is any proof to be had. Any response will be gratefully received.

  • Hi Frances,

Thank you so much for your help. I would love to send for the possible marrigae cert. of Christopher Lennon and Bridget Taite, and have noted the refs you have found for me. I've checked the usual GRO site, but can order only English and Welsh certs. I have followed your link to groireland.ie and not found out how I can order this certificate from there. If it is possible, please tell me how I should go about this. A cert for 4 euros sounds too good to be true, as GRO charge £9 normally. Sorry, but I am confused.

Please help, again, if you can.

    Thank you,

    Jenny Daniel

  • Jenny:

A cert for 4 euros is too good to be true. A cert costs around 20 euros but a copy of the record as Frances indicated costs around 4 euros. Go to this link https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx

Print out the marriage form, fill it out to the best of your ability, check that you want a copy, add the info from the index record that Frances provided: quarter/year of the event, registration district and volume and page number. You have to use snail mail to get the request to GRO in Co. Roscommon ( address provided when you print the form). I provide a credit card number and have had no problems. You can also ask GRO to e-mail the copy back to you.
