Iam looking for information about a John Quinn.
He was born around 1830. He was convicted of stealing 30October1848 and transported to Tasmania in 1850.
He was a labourer from Dublin City and had a father Richard, mother Hannah and brother Richard.

Dear David
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I have had a look at www.irishgenealogy.ie but cannot find a record of the baptism of any children born to a father Richard Quinn and mother 1st name Hannah. There is only 1 record on the same site for a Richard Quinn married to a bride, 1st name Hannah but this is in 1850 so too late.
Is there any way you could find out some more from your side?

Hello Clare,
Thank you for your investigating John Quinn. The only other information that might be useful is the fact that a letter was sent from Ireland to the Tasmanian Lt Governor's Office dated 12 August 1854. This letter has been lost but it has been recorded that Richard Quinn's address was 7 Ransfield Street, Dublin.

Dear David
Have you already had a look at the informaton available from the Tasmanian Government Archives Search Portal?
http://portal.archives.tas.gov.au/menu.aspx?detail=1&type=C&id=58044
There is a blue eyed, fair complexioned John Quinn mentioned here:

I will try to find out some more for you over the next few days
Best wishes

Hello Clare, Thank you for continuing the search. I have copies of the information from the Tasmanian Government Archives Search Portal. There is also a record of him applying for permission to marry. Local newspapers also detail some of his life as he eventually became a sub-inspector of police. Unfortunately he has not left any evidence related to his life in Ireland. In fact it appears he tried to cover it up as one obituary states that he came to Tasmania as an apprentice. The Tasmanian evidence clearly shows that he came as a convict. Regards David Mc Bain

Hi,
I've just come across this old thread regarding John Quinn and his father Richard Quinn. I'm trying to fill in some details regarding Richard (who I believe to be my great-great-great-great grandfather). If anyone who's contributed to this thread is still available, and has any information regarding Richard, I'd be pleased to hear from you.
