William Faulkner was born about 1815 and his wife Hannah Crosby/Crosbie was born about 1819.  Their first known son was John Crosby Faulkner born about 1844 in Dublin and then George Lewis Faulkner was born about 1845 in Dublin.

The family emigrated to Ontario Canada, between 1845 and 1849.  They had a son Ford Faulkner born 1847-1849 in Toronto Ontario Canada.  William Faulkner's occupation was listed a Tailor.

The forename of Crosby and Ford was used a lot in their descendants.  As I know Crosby was was Hannah's maiden name, perhaps there are Fords in the family.

There was a Mary Jane Crosby born in 1823 in Dublin whose parents were listed as Ford(e) Crosby and  Margaret or Susan Carter.  Jane Crosby married a John Sotheran in Canada.  This family also kept the tradition of using Ford and Crosby as forenames.  Mary Jane Crosby might have been a relative,  as she is born around the same time and she settled in  the same area of Canada.

They were Protestant.  Are there any records available for this time frame?

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I checked on www.irishgenealogy.ie which has Dublin city church records both RC and C of I but could not find the baptismal records for the John and George in the 1840s. Also did not see a marriage record. Let me know if they lived outside the city and I will check Roots Ireland. Also, we have some Dublin experts and maybe they will have more insights.

  • Thanks Roger, I don't know where they lived. I was assuming the city as William was a tailor as opposed to a farmer.  However I don't have any proof of where they lived.  Most times in Canadian records the origin is simply listed as Ireland.
