Searching for relatives in St. Colmcille's Church Cemetery: Drew/ Kelly/ O'Connor/Ryan

Unfortunately like many Catholic Parishes there seems to be no historic burial registers for St. Colmcille's Cemetery, Swords. You can see some details and a map on the Dublin Graveyards Directory on the City Library Website. It's listed as Swords (Saint Colmcille's)

There may be some headstone transcripts online for this cemetery on IGP or Interment.net etc - if I find any I'll post a link

Bear in mind that not all families could afford a headstone, so there may never have been one, or possibly there was a headstone at one stage but it weathered badly, or fell over.  There are Kellys, Ryans and one Connor, but I dont see any Drews..

AR are the intials on the person who transcribed the headstone inscriptions - in this case all by Anna Ryan, see top of the list. Sometimes for larger graveyards on this system you can see initials for multiple transcribers.

Some transcript sites include photos of the headstones in additional to transcripts - e.g. IGP archives for Co. Dublin. They do have a listing for 'Swords Church' which based on the photos seems to be St. Colmcille's, but with just three headstones transcribed and with photos - including one O'Connor.. .

I tried to use their search tool, but as I only knew the birthdate and not the death it didnt give me any info...

The Glasnevin records should include date of death or burial (the initial search only shows year) and usually give age at death, and last residence but you need to buy credits to see the full details - you can opt view details of other burials in the same plot, often other family which can help you link together.

If your family lived in the Swords area I'd start there for deaths and burials, as it a narrower area, so smaller numbers to check. For those that died after the start of Civil registration in 1864 watch for deaths in the registration district of Balrothery on the BMD Index, as this district covered north County Dublin incuding Swords.

Have you done your DNA?  The Heritage Center in Swords could be very helpful to you.  It is run by Bernadette Marks who is very competent.

My Great Grandmother is Ellen Mary Connor (1839-1906) married to Michael Savage (1833-1897) with both buried at St. Colmcille's.

Hello again,  Just read your 2nd post.  So my great grandparents were married on May 17, 1858 and one of the witnesses was Thomas McGrane.  My great, great grandparents were Nicholas Connor and Mary nee Kiernan.  I am wondering if your Connor ancestor is a brother to Nicholas or even a son of Nicholas.    Paddy Savage
