Dear Lizbeth, I am an administrator for Bailieborough & Shercock, in Co. Cavan.
I put Clogher into a google search & there is one in Co Tyrone, which is in Ulster & another in Co Mayo & in Co. Monaghan. Clogher is also name of the Church Diocese that covers 5 counties that straddle the border between Northern Ireland & the Republic. I then looked at the 1901 census at nationalarchives.ie & looked at the occurance of the name Carrigan & it occurs 13 times in Mayo, 15 times in Tyrone & 21 in Co. Monaghan, when I looked at the name Carberry, it did not occur in Mayo at all, it was in Monaghan 9 times & in Tyrone 25 times, which give us nothing to go on.
I then browsed the same census & a Sara Carrigan is Clogher Co Tyrone & there is also a family by the name of Corrigan. I then browsed Clogher, Co Mayo & there are two Kerrigan families one in Dooncastle & another in Rockfield.
I had no luck in Co. Monaghan
You need to try a find out more information on your family as the searches I have done does not prove anything. What years are you looking at? & why did your relative in America suggest Clogher, if you can find that basis, we may have more to go on. Also did they marry in USA & if they did, they could have met there & be from 2 different counties.
Best of luck wth your searches & perhaps when you get more info, you could look at familysearch.org (free site) or join Ancestry.com (subscription site) which has a large collection of records.
