My Great Grandmother, Sarah Travers, and a few of her siblings immigrated to the US in 1891 from Dromahaire, County Leitrim, Ireland. They left their parents, Loughlin (aka Malachy) Travers and Bridget Crown(e) Travers and 5 additional siblings that all resided in that area. Through DNA testing and a few sites, I have connected with extended family members.
I am hoping to discover additional family and/or information. It is also my hope to make a trip to this area of Ireland in the very near future, but desire to make some additional discoveries and connections before I do.
Someone recommended this site. Can't hurt to put up a post, right? Any connections out there?
Slan,
Lisa

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I thought I had responded to this message last night but I must not have hit the POST button. In any event, is this your family in Fawn in 1901?? http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Leitrim/Drumahaire/Fawn/14…
Loughlin died in 1909 You have to sign-in to see the record.
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…
Bridget likely died in 1904 but the image is not available.
Quite a few Travers families in Fawn in 1911 census.
I also found marriage banns on January 7, 1852 in Manorhamilton RC church so likely the family married very soon after.

Dear Roger,
Thank you so much for responding and attaching those records. I have seen the 1901 and 1911 census and yes, the death dates that you list for Loughlin and Bridget match my records too. As a result of DNA testing combined with online sites, I have connected with a few of my Mom's 2nd and 3rd cousins, which has been both helpful and exciting to me!
One of the Travers that still lives in Ireland thought that perhaps Bridget and Loughlin are buried at Carraig a' Teampall (Gaelic for "the Rock of the Church's/Temple) near Dromahaire in Co. Leitrim where Lochlann and Bridget lived. Their son, Malachy (Jr) is buried there along with his brother James, my Great Uncles. Do you know if any kind of church record would indicate who is buried there, or if the church even still exists?
I am so pleased and thankful that you responded to my post. Thank you again!
Best to you,
Lisa

Hi There, I see there hasn't been any activity on this board for quite awhile but perhaps folks will receive an email that there is a new post.
I am in NJ, USA and am the granddaughter of Joseph Crowne born about 1895 to Michael and Sarah Crowne of Dromahair, Leitrim. Michael and Sarah were married in Dromahair in 1877. Michael's father was Martin Crowne from Friarstown.
My grandfather Joseph came to the US sometime between 1901 (age 6) and 1911 (age 16) and settled in Elizabeth NJ. My father was his oldest son, Joseph Jr.
My family was farmers and I am wondering about any decendents of this family still in Leitrim and would love to learn more about the story of my family there. I am planning a trip there this June 2020.
Thank you for any information, and I hope to hear from someone with Crowne family roots from the Dromahair, Co Leitrim area!
Best,
Lorraine Crown

Hello Lorraine,
I'm so happy that you posted your message on Ireland Reaching Out, and Yes, I did receive an email stating that there was a new message!
I would be happy to share with you any of the information that I have on the Crown family. My mother, also named Lorraine (actually her middle name but that is the name that she went by), did genealogy for years. She passed away a couple of years ago and I have taken over her research.
Through Ancestry.com, I made a Crown Family connection here in the US. She has shared much of her information/research with me and has been quite a wonderful resource for me when it comes to geneaolgy in total. I will copy and paste your message to her. I'm sure that she would be thrilled to connect with you. She has done far more research on the Crown side of the family than I have. I'll get back to you as soon as I hear back from her.
Please keep me posted.
Best,
Lisa {descendant of Bridget Crown and Laughlin Travers}LJSS

Hi Lisa, thanks so much for your reply. My uncle Howard Crown (grandson of Michael and Sarah Crowne from Dromahair) was an historian in the US and went to County Leitrim around 2002 to have a professional geneologist do our history. We have it back to his great grandfather, Martin Crowne from Dromahair. I'm happy to share that document.
My uncle Howard was also well known in the States as an historian of the Molly Maguires, and he lived in Schukill County PA in the region where workers organized against the mines and railroads and where the Molly Maguires were tried and hanged.
Anything you can share would be great. Thank you so much.
Best,
Lorraine

Hello Lorraine,
I would love to see your information regarding your branch of the Crowne Tree back to Leitrim! How wonderful for you to have that kind of research. Your Uncle Howard sounds so interesting. I would love to hear more about him and his research as well.
Would you please contact me at my email address at ljschiek@gmail.com? I would like to share your contact information with our Crown relation that has done a lot of research on our Crown Ancestry. She also resides currently in the USA. I have reached out to her and she would love to connect with you. I think that we could all benefit by collaborating.
This is really exciting to me! I love when these kind of connections come together. Especially right before St Patrick's Day : )
Hope you are doing well. Current times and events may serve us well in terms of having time to do geneaolgy. I'm trying to find the silver lining in lieu of the current Coronoa Virus. May God bless and protect us all!
Slan,
Lisa
