Looking for information on Abraham Kennedy married to Ann McLaughlin. They sailed on the Lord Seaton for Ontario in 1847. A son, Abraham, sailed with them and a daughter, Margaret age 3 who died aboard ship.

Any idea what religious denomination they were?

They belonged to the Church of England according to the 1871 Canadian census. I got my people m. ixed up. Abraham Kennedy married Roseann Henry. I am also searching for information on John Dumars who married Ann McLaughlin. John might have been the son of Adam Dumars. Some places I see him from Fermanagh and sometimes from Tyrone. I wonder if the two families knew each other in Ireland. Both families went to Canada and Abraham Kennedy (the son) married Hannah Dumars (daughter of John).

Dotti,
Birth registration didn’t start in Ireland till 1864 and non RC marriages were only registered from 1845 onwards. So it appears that the marriages and the 2 childrens births all predate statutory records. So you need church records.
There are several Church of Ireland churches in Aghalurcher parish, each with a separate set of records. However the main church’s records there start in 1788. There’s a copy in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast. A personal visit is necessary to view them.
A part of the 1821 census of Aghalurcher has survived and there were 2 Kennedy households in that fragment:

I suspect the surname Dumars isn’t right. Or at least the family may have changed it at some point. The surname is not known in Ireland. There’s no-one of that name in Ireland in the 1901 census. Could it have been something like Dunbar perhaps?

Hi Elwyn,
Thank you so much for the information. The Kennedys in the 1821 census are not familiar, but at least I know there were "Kennedys" in this area.
As for Dumars I have an Adam Dumars born about 1783 in Aughologher. He might be the father of John Dumars who was born about 1814 in Cashel, Tipperary. Adam may have married Hannah Noble. There are many Dumars in Pennsylvania and several in Ontario. I believe I am related to the ones in Canada. ( My dad thought his grandmother's name was Hannah DeMars from Virginia. I know there is a Virginia in County Cavan). The marriage of Hannah Dumars to Abraham Kennedy in Canada shows that each was born in Ireland. Adam Dumars belonged to the 44th Regiment of Foot and John Dumars belonged to the 30th Regiment of Foot and I believe he was wounded at Waterloo. In lieu of a pension he was given land in Ontario.
Abraham Kennedy and his wife, Roseann Henry, and at least two children sailed to Canada in 1847. Because of the death of their daughter, Margaret, their arrival was documented. The documents show them to be from Aughologher, Fermanagh.
Hope I didn't bore you.

Dotti.
Aughologher is fairly obviously Aghalurcher. However I can only find a single reference to the name Dumars in the county in records covering several hundred years. This link which appears to be 2 two hospital admissions for the same man in 1870 and 1888 is the only one.
I looked for a death certificate for Noble Dumars, and for anyone else of that name, but no-one named Dumars has ever died in Ireland since death registration began in 1864. I am inclined to think the name has been garbled somehow.
Perhaps the military records may give a little more information on the family?

Hi Dotti,
I think John Dumars 1812 -1862 was the brother of Adam Duma(r)s born in Deal Kent 1819-1886 died in NZ ,m Margaret Farrell, son of Adam Dumars & Hannah Noble from France/Northern ireland.
