Hi, my name is Katelyn.

I'm researching my great-great-great-randparents Hugh Gallagher and Margaret Magrath. I cannot find anything about them online. Their son John was born in 1887 in Scarden and on his birth record (found on rootsireland) his parents are stated as Hugh Gallagher and Margaret Magrath. I'm unsure of her surname as I can't find reference to it anywhere. I think she was born about 1850, and died October 31st, 1922. Hugh was born about 1844 and died January 2nd, 1928. I don't know anything more of them. I'd love to know who their parents were.

Thank you,

Katelyn x

  • Katelyn:

Any chance that Hugh was actually Patrick Hugh Gallagher? I found this 1868 civil marriage index record in the Ballyshannon district for a Margaret Magrath and Patrick Gallagher. Probably unrelated but I wanted to make sure you were aware of the record.

  • Thnk you for your quick reply.

I'm unsure of any alternative name other than Hugh. On his gravestone he is declared as Hugh Gallagher. They are a tricky couple tp pin down. In the Census they live within the Beleek parish if that helps? Their residence was Scarden Lower in Castlecaldwell, Fermanagh.

  • Katelyn:

Belleek parish is part of the Ballyshannon registration district. I would keep this record as a possible lead.

  • My Gallaghers were  from out in Scardans as well in the mid 1800s. There was quite a crowd of them out there.
