Looking for ancestors.....
My GGGGrandmother Bessy Goan came to Australia with her husband James and children in 1855.
Her children were Catherine (my GGGrandmother), Anne, James, Thomas & John. Other children Elizabeth & Christopher were born here in Australia.
Death certifictes state that Elizabeth's parents were Thomas McGurn (Macguire) and Ann Shannon.
The shipping records state that James' Goan parents were listed as Christian (???) Goan and Catherine - both deceased.
I have traced their names through death certificates back to Enniskillen, Fermanagh, Ireland. It also states their parents were farmers.
My GGGrandmother married William Murphy (also from Fermanagh) here in Australia. William's parents are named as James Murphy and Jane Liddel.
This is about as much information that I can find.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Regards
Di Fryga

Hi Di,
Thank you for your message.
Have you tried looking in Church records in Enniskillen for information? Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which you may find helpful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Enniskillen follow this link:
For Church of Ireland records check:
http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/. The Anglican Record Project is has created an index to their records: http://ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/AngRecord/bunclodyunionindex.pdf
You could also try searching for some record of the family in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
