I am looking for information on a gravestone in Slavin Church of Ireland Cemetery. "Erected by Alexander Somerville in memory of his wife Anne Somerville who departed 11 July 1835, aged 35 years". I believe these were the parents of my great great grandfather William Somerville (born around 1830 and died near Lisbellaw, Fermanagh in 1897). An Alexander, Catherine (his 2nd wife?) and William were living at Fassagh, Inishmacsaint in 1862 at the time of Griffiths Valuation so i assume this is the same Alexander.
In the same graveyard is a stone "Erected by Lowrey Somerville in memory of his children Margaret Somerville who departed this life October 16th 1849, aged 20 years, John Somerville who departed this life February 24th 1866 and William Somerville who departed this life July 6th 1870". I would love to know what the connection is and any information anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
Linda Somerville

Linda,
The Alexander, William and Catherine listed in Fassagh in Griffiths could well be related but Catherine is unlikely to be married to either of them. Women generally only appear in Griffiths if they are widows. I note that Catherine had plot 13 which was land only (ie no house). So she lived somewhere else, probably with William on plot 12. He and Alexander might be father & son, brothers or cousins.
Catherine is deleted from the records in 1871, so she might have died around then. You could check the death records. (Stat death registration started in 1864). Alexander is deleted in 1877, and William replaces him. So again check for a death. William is replaced by George in 1911. Here’s that family in 1901:

And in 1911:

Probate abstracts from the PRONI wills site:
Administration (with the Will) of the estate of Sidney Someville late of Fassagh Belleek County Fermanagh Widow who died 20 October 1906 granted at Armagh to Elizabeth Robinson Married Woman.
Somerville John James of Fassagh Belleek county Fermanagh farmer died 31 December 1949 Administration Belfast 30 March to David Somerville farmer. Effects £418 7s. 5d.
Somerville George of Fassagh Belleek county Fermanagh retired farmer died 14 February 1956 at Moneendoge Belleek Probate Belfast 19 September to May Vance married woman. Effects £184 15s.
Looking at the tithe applotment records for Fassagh in 1834 I see 2 Somerville famrs there. One headed by William and another by John. One of them was probably that Alexander’s father.

Fassagh is at the far end of Fermanagh from Lisbellaw. The two are probably 50 miles apart. Somerville is a common name in Fermanagh. I would hesitate to conclude that The Alexander Somerville there is the relative of the one buried in Lisbellaw. Farmers tend not to move around that much.
There’s an Alexander Somerville in Lisbellaw in 1901, though I note his father originated in Tyrone:

Lisbellaw is in Cleenish parish. Unfortunately their early Church of Ireland records were all destroyed in the 1922 fire and they have none earlier than the 1880s. I think you might struggle to find out much about the family buried there.
The William Somerville who died on 25.8.1897 was a carpenter, aged 67. His son John was the informant. The family lived in Carrowkeel. Here’s the widow and son John in 1901:

Hi Linda
Re: "Erected by Lowrey Somerville in memory of his children Margaret Somerville who departed this life October 16th 1849, aged 20 years, John Somerville who departed this life February 24th 1866 and William Somerville who departed this life July 6th 1870".
My 3x great grandfather was Lowry Somerville of Gortnalee. He married Eliza CARSON 1823 and together had 7 children - Eleanor (Ellen) (my 2x gt grandmother, married Alexander MILLS of Ardees Upper 1849 at Slavin Chapel), Margaret, William, Jane (married Thomas McBRIEN 1855 at Slavin Chapel), Christiana (married William WILSON of Bunnahone 1866), John, and Elizabeth (married John EARLS of Slavin 1873 Slavin Chapel).
Re: "Erected by Alexander Somerville in memory of his wife Anne Somerville who departed 11 July 1835, aged 35 years". Alexander is my 4th gt uncle. He married Anne and they had 2 children born Drumenaghmore, Fermanagh - Margaret b.1826 and Alexander b.1827. Alexander is son of William SOMERVILLE (abt 1752-1819, buried Derrygonnelly) and wife Ann. Lowry SOMERVILLE is also son of William and Ann.
