I am trying to find any information on my Great Great Grandmother Mary Ann Brennan and her family. I know that she was born abt February 2, 1839 and came to the United states around 1845. She had a brother who's name I believe was Thomas and he was the one who brought her and her mother over to the United States. I have not been able to come up with her mother or fathers name or why her father did not travel with them. I have been told that her dad passed away when she was young so I would assume that may be why he didn't travel with them. I am attaching a picture I found that I believe is her.

Thanks,

Barb

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Bapitsmla records for Ardrahan RC parish start on May 30, 1839 so if Mary Anne was born on February 2, 1839 a baptismal record would not exist unless she was baptized in another parish. I searched in the Galway West records on Roots Ireland and although there were many Mary Brennan records, the 1842 transcription below was the only one in Ardrahan. You will need some info from American records to determine if this is your ancestor or another Mary Brennan. Here is a link to the parish register. http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0611

  • I am also descended from Mary Ann Brennan (born Castle Taylor South, Adrahan, Co Galway 2 Feb 1939 and died 9 Mar 1920 in Sioux City, Woodbury Co., Iowa. Her only child from her first marriage (Mary Ann McGrath Roche 1856-1924) was my great-grandmother. Mary Ann Brennan McGrath Bachelor was my 2x great-grandmother. I have quite a bit of info about the family after reaching America on a private Ancestry.com tree and would be happy to grant you access. My e-mail is mary.dahlstromsalic@gmail.com or you can contact me via this site. Mary's fathers name is not known and her mother (Catherine surname unknown) was born about 1800 and died in Fort Dodge Iowa (she had lived there with her son Thomas for many years) 29 Jul 1887. She is buried in Fort Dodge with Thomas. I can't wait to hear from you. I do have pictures of Mary Ann Brennan and one of her mother Catherine.

  • Hi Barb and Mary

I have a Mary Brennan (born 1805) in Galway,  who married my  2nd great grandfather John Hynes (born 1804) from Ardrahan.

Mary had first married John Martyn and they had a son Peter Martyn b: 1830-1907. Unsure is Peter Martyn came to Australia.

Could my Mary Brennan be the Aunt of your Mary Ann? I have Mary's parents as Peter Brennan and Mary Cusack but need to do more research.

Let me know if there is a link.

    Regards

    Andrea
