I believe my Grandfather's family was from county Clare. His name was Andrew John McGinness. He was born in the US.I don't know his Father's name. I have heard that the original family name might have McGinnis. If anyone has any information regarding the McGinness / McGinnis famlies I would love to hear from you. There are quite a few public member trees on ancestry which have Andrew John McGinness.
Born 1828 Tennessee; father John Alexander McGinness mother Delilah Susannah Starnes
Grandfather William Alexander McGinness; great grandfather Alexander McGinness; great great grandfather William McGinnis born c 1720 Ireland.
There were no birth/baptism records for him on rootsireland

William McGinnis baptism Audoen C of I parish Dublin 5 Sep 1724 parents William McGinnis and Elizabeth
Family Search (free site) has 4 William McGinnis records (all the same one) which have William McGinnis born 1730 in St Peters Drogheda Louth.
