Any PATRICK RYAN (1828-1887), HANNAH RYAN (1847-1918) Cousins remaining in Clonfert, Ballinasloe, Clontuskert, Galway area?

Today, I received an email from Ireland of the transcript of my great uncles birth record.  George Brunton born in Kylemore, Ballanisloe, Galway, November, 1883.  The parents (my great grandparents) are David Brunton (Land Steward - address - Kylemore and Mary Brunton (nee Clunie).  Why I am contacting you is because the informant listed present at time of birth is a Hanna Ryan from Laurencetown.  I don't know what the role of "an informant" is - midwife???.  I don't know if this is the same Hanna Ryan as your Hanna Ryan - I'm sure Ryan is a common name.  I just saw your post online this evening when I typed her name in google since I don't know a Hanna Ryan in my family history.  Strange coincidence. 

Some coincidence!  My Hannah Ryan Mylott was in Stockport at that time.  But since we have to consider Irish naming traditions it would not suprise me if this Hanna was related to my Hannah's father Patrick.   Will be on the lookout. Thank you!  

I remember a Ryan family in the Ballymana area of Ballinasloe on the main  road  Laurentown/Ballinasloe They had a corner shop within their house near to my grandmother Lizzie Williams ( Elizabeth Colohan) I used to walk there with her. They had a daughter Mary who was about the same age as me I was born Dec 1960. We used to write to each other often. Dont know what has happened to her. Last time I visted the area was 2008.

Thanks for your reply JoD.  I met a Mary Ryan on an earlier visit who is married and now living in Clonfert who once lived near Laurencetown.  It could be the same one you knew.  She and her family were very gracious talking with me when I unexpectedly stopped by their home.  Mary led me to talk with the owners of Ryan's Pub (Ballinasloe), Martin and Michael Ryan, who also had connections to Clontuskert.  On my visit this past April I met up with Martin again and he said that although he was not a family genealogist, he thought they were related to me, my 2nd ggf Patrick Ryan and my ggm Hannah Ryan Mylott.    Martin showed me around Clontuskert where Michael was tending the herd and Patrick and rest of the family once lived.  After my meetup, I realized I forgot to ask them where the family of that earlier era might have been buried.  I visited Clontuskert cemetery on my own and saw a few Ryan graves, but none resonated with names of my tree.  Wondering, would they have been buried at the nearby Abbey?   Thanks again!  Tom

It's quite possible your family could be in the grounds of the old abbey. My nan was buried there is 1997. There is a website for the abbey which tells you the names of the people buried there, I can't remember the website it could be "find a grave, I'll do some searching.

TomTHANKS for the links Jo!   Managed to find at Abbey a Mathias Ryan who died in 1817 & buried by a brother John.  Owen Ryan was also buried there in 1890.   Since I suspect that Patrick had a brother John, they could also be connected.   Would need to do more work to verify.  Every little bit helps.  Thanks again, Tom
