Does anyone know if there is a list of names for Killooaun Buriel ground.

Still looking after all these years, we think her parents were Michael Gavin and Margaret Kelly if that helps.

I'm not sure if the Killooaun burial ground is the Killahaun burial ground, but I think it might be (and Gavin is a local name).

Did you know that Mary Gavin's death record is available free on Irish Genealogy (www.irishgenealogy.ie)? It was actually registered in 1942, in the Loughrea district. It says that Mary was single (farmer, aged 75), but the informant is recorded as her daughter Elizabeth Keogh (of Ballinisloe).

Also on Irish Genealogy, a Lizzie Gavin (daughter of Patrick) married a Thomas Keogh in Ballinisloe in 1910.

The Connacht Tribune of 31 March 1923 (p. 14) has a list of sales of grazing lettings, including Miss Mary Gavin of Balleygreaney, about 12 acres.

The Connacht Tribune of 11 June 1927 (pp. 9 and 10) has Mrs Mary Gavin of Bellygreany, Woodlawn in trouble for her grandchild not attending school. The child's parents were away.

To complicate things, The Irish Press of 22 August 1940 (p. 10) has a death notice for a Mary Gavin - died 21 August 1940, at her brother's house, Ballydearney, Mountbellew. Funeral at the Parish Church, Mountbellew. Burial at Aughayart.

The 1940 Mary Gavin was reported to be a 61 year old spinster. And her brother was named Andrew (I think).

Thanks very much Willie, I do have Mary's death cert 3rd December 1941 at Ballygreaney aged 75 and it was my grandmother Elizabeth Keogh nee Gavin who was the witness,  I have been in contact many times with all of the Keogh's of Ballinasloe but they too have no idea where she was laid to rest. I think the  Ballydearney one must have been a coinsidence as the cert says Ballgreaney as above, I have seen the sale of the land document and the young lad who she got in trouble for was my dad who was later sent to Letterfrack , the stories she told from the school children were found by my late sister who started the family tree back in 1999. So all that is left for us to find is her resting place, we found out where her sister Anne Gavin who lived in Doonane  was buried (unmarked grave)  but that is the closest we have been.

Apparently there is an old and a new burial ground at Ballymacward.

Killooaun  / Killahaun / Killuane seem to be the same place - and near Ballymacward.
