Hi

 

I am tracing records of the Silke family from Clontuskert who moved to Kiltormer.

My father was Thomas Silke (born 1933); his father was Patrick Silke (born 1896) who married Mary Hynes (1932); his father was Thomas Silke who married Ann Colohan (1895).  They also had 4 daughters: Mary, Annie, Hanoria, Kate; his father was either Martin or Patrick.

I would be grateful if anyone has any knowledge of my ancestors.

  • Hi Maria, I came across your response today- this is what I have on my maternal family tree of Flahertys. Brigid Flaherty (my great grandfathers sister). As she and her siblings were born pre 1864, there are baptismal records only. She was baptised on December 15th 1832 in Ardranny, Kiltormer. She married Patrick Silke a farmer (born abt 1833) of Cooleeney, Kiltormer in 1862. Witnesses to the marriage were John Silk and Brigid Duane. They had five children. Patrick Silke died in Cooleeny in 1890 aged 57 years old and Brigid died on November 14th 1899 in Cooleeny aged 67 years old.                   

    Descendants of Brigid and Patrick Silke continued to live in Cooleeney until about the early 1980s. Other descendants are mostly based in the UK. I have been in contact with Sean Silke a great grandson of Thomas Silke via Ancestry. He resides in the UK. We share 58cM of DNA across 4 segments 

     

    Silke - Colohan Family of Cooleeney, Kiltormer. Thomas Silke was born in 1864 in Cooleeney, Kiltormer. He married  Anne Colohan of Clontuskert. He died in 1930.

    Patrick Silke (1896-1980). Married Mary Hynes (1898-1939).

    5.1 Thomas Francis Silke was born in 1933 and died 2008.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Grandson Sean Silke. Lives in Bermingham. 4th–6th Cousin. Shared DNA:  58 cM across 4 segments
