FREE Heritage Week 2015 Family History Lecture

As part of Heritage Week 2015 a Family History Lecture is being hosted by the Galway Family History Society West entitled Tracing your Ancestors in West Galway Learn about sources that exist for tracing ancestry in Co. Galway & in particular west Galway which constitutes an area in the county stretching from Dunmore to Kinvara and all areas west of this including Galway City.

The Galway Family History Society West is based in St. Joseph’s Community Centre, Ashe Road, Shantalla, Galway City. It is 30 years in existence this year. It has computerised various records for Galway City parishes and the parishes that are in the western part of Co. Galway which is an area that extends to the parishes of Dunmore, Tuam, Kilererin, Abbeyknockmoy, Monivea, Athenry, Clarinbridge, Ardrahan and Kinvara.

The area of the county, east of these parishes is covered by the East Galway Family History Society which is based in Woodford, Co. Galway. Both centres are part of the Irish Family History Foundation (IFHF), the co-ordinating body for a network of government-approved genealogical research centres across the island of Ireland.
