International Women’s Day has become a major fixture in the global calendar in recent years and a unique event will take place in Galway when remarkable local females are honoured as Dúchas na Gaillimhe – Galway Civic Trust hosts a ‘Notable Women of Galway’ walking tour to mark the day (Sunday 8th March).

Notable Women of Galway’ walking tour

The walk will be led by Saibh Egan and will pay tribute to some of Galway’s most influential and colourful Galway Girls (both past and present!) at associated locations along the way.

Among those who Saibh will talk about include Writer and Abbey Theatre founder, Lady Gregory; wife and muse of James Joyce, Nora Barnacle; and Actress, Siobhán McKenna.

The walk will also pay compliment to contemporary local figures of renown such as Singer, Dolores Keane; Poet, Rita Ann Higgins; and Human Rights Campaigner, Margaretta D’Arcy.

The walk commences at the Browne Doorway, Eyre Square at 10.30am. Enquiries to 0876466625.
