Hi
Im trying to trace my GGF's roots. He moved to Blackburn, Lancashire by 1901 from Galway. His marriage to a Margaret Calvert in 1904 suggests he was born abt 1875-77, and was son of a Thomas Comer, a farmer. I don't know where from exactly he was born- and there seem to be several families he could be from- but all seem to come from the Glenamaddy/Dunmore area.
Any Comer family history to help me identify his line further would be really appreciated.
cheers
Paul

Hi Paul,
Thank you very much for your message. I hope that someone with information makes a connection with you and helps you to further your research.
In the meantime, as your GGF was born aster civil registration became mandatory here should be a record of his birth in civil records. These are available from the GRO and will help you to narrow down a place or origin and give you some more information. Here are their contact details:

Paul;
I saw your post on a Glenamaddy facebook page this morning. My 2nd great grand father, Patrick Comer was born in 1847. In 1871 he got married in Cloonfad and listed his father as Thomas Comer. His home town was listed as Wood Bed. While I am not 100% certain I believe this to be a reference to Kilnalappa just outside of Dunmore. If you send me a separate e-mail I will forward you a copy of the marriage cert if you would like.
