    Hello David,

Welcome. Have you had any luck in tracing any of your family members so far?

I'm the volunteer parish admin for Glenamaddy in County Galway. I have a lot of contacts around Glenamaddy that might be of help in tracing your ancestors. One facebook group I started - https://www.facebook.com/groups/71896753431/ ,  a lot of group members post in the group looking for info on there ancestors, this is a good start.

Let me know if I can be of more help, as I can look into tracing your family members with good old fashioned on the ground enquirers.

    Regards,

    Erik Raftery.

  • My third great grandfather was named patrick Comer.  He was born around 1847 but I do not know where.  His father was named Thomas Comer as am I.  I suspect people didn't go far from where they were born.  Patrick was married in 1871 in Cloonfad to Bridget Dowling.   She was born around 1851 and her father was Michael Dowling.  In 1871 Patrick lists his hometown as Woodbed.  She lists her hometown as Bally Killeen.  I don't know where either of these towns are, but I suspect they were close to Cloonfad.
