I have found several baptism records that have DI as an abbreviation for the father and MI for the mother. Does anyone know what these abbreviations stand for? These are Irish records.
Thank you!

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
It is possible that these abbreviations may refer to the names of the parents. Sometimes on church records names may be abbreviated, so for example the abbreviation may actually read DL, which would be short for Daniel. I?m not really sure what the MI/ML may stand for, possibly Margaret/Mary-Elizabeth.
Here is a link to a website that gives a guide to using Catholic records and a translation of the latin that would have been used on them. However, there is no mention of a DI or MI abbreviation.

Sorry I could not be of more help.
