I'm visiting ireland this fall and are looking for any relatives. My furthest back ancestor was Patrick Faherty, born around 1730; his son was Edmund Faherty born around 1775 and married to Mary Jewell and their son was John Faherty born in 1814 and his son was Patrick Feherty born in 1840 in the USA. Cousins of the early Fahertys were the Whelans and Connellys from Tughill on the Aran islands. Are there any relatives still in ireland?

Hey,
Where did your ancestors originate from, do you know? Kilannin is quite a large parish so a clue to whether they came from the coastal areas of south Connemara or closer to Lough Corrib and Kilannin itself would help narrow down your search greatly.

My relative Patrick Faherty was born in 1730 in the village of Ballinahown, parish of Killanin and the arch-diocese of Tuam in Galway. I am guessing the largest area is the diocese, then the parish, then the village. Is there still such a place as Ballinahown? From there the place of origin is listed as Galway until they immigrated to the USA.
I believe Patrick Faherty might have married a Whalen from Oughil in the Aran islands. Thanks! Barbara

Hi Barbara,
I come from Fahertys of the village of Ballynahown South/North. It is the one next to Banragbaun, Keeraunagark, Inveran, etc... It's in the parish of Killanin. I come from Conneelys, Fahertys, Folans etc... from there. I come from the various villages near it as well. My mother was born there and my relatives still live there today! A relative on Ancestry.com told me about this webist and you post. We show as being fourth-sixth cousins through the Ancestry.com DNA test and have been corresponding te past few days. Have you done this test or would you be willing. Sre you on Ancestry.com. I can invite you to my family tree so you can see if we are related. I'd say it's a very strong possibilty we are. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Tim
