My great grandmother Margaret (Maggie) Costello was born In Ireland approximately 1864. She immigrated to the United States in the late 1880's and settled in the state of Maine. A sister followed later, I believe her name was Nora. They left a sister and brother who remained in Ireland. The brother was Martin Costello and if I remember correctly the sister was Mary and she became a Folan. My great grandmother used to write to her sister who remained in Ireland at an address that simply said " Cornarone Middle, Inverin, County Galway, Ireland." I would like to find out the following:
Maggie Costello's parent's names
Descendants of Mary Folan living in Ireland
Possible burial sites in Ireland of Costello and Folan ancestors
Location of Cornarone Middle
any other helpful information.
Thank you!

Linda:
The townland is Cornarona. Here is Martin and his family in the 1901 and 1911 censuses. There was also a John and Mary Folan in the same townland so I'm presuming that is the sister of Margaret. NOTE: There were many Folans in Cornarona so take caution with these census records.

I need to do some further checking on available records. It looks like the RC records for Killannin church do not start until 1875.
I will get back to you.

Thank you Roger! You are correct. There are many Folans in the census. Thank you for the links! The Martin Costello entries you found in 1901 and 1911 look very likely to be him. Seems to be the correct approximate age. He even had children named Maggie and Norah, probably named after his two sisters.
Upon further examination of Folan entries, I found a Stephen and Mary Folan living in the same area with Stephen's father Patt in the 1901 census. They have four children: Patt, MARTIN, Barbara and Mary. Again, if these are indeed related, they are naming the children after aunts and uncles. Seems a decent clue, don't you think?
If we were to visit Ireland, would there be anything to see or do in this area of Cornarona that would further my research? It is so fascinating! Thank you for your assistance!
