Looking to trace Patrick J Hannan's life and ancestors. He was my  great  grand uncle

He was born in Killimor around 1850s and left for US when he was ?in his twenties .

He done quite well for himself in US and left money to an array of nieces and nephews, most of whom were in US at time of his death. He sent home fares for all his siblings,  over years.

He died in Ocean City, New Jersey some date post Nov 1926(last date on will)

Appreciate any advice etc

  • Hi there,

Thank you very much for your query to Ireland Reaching Out. You should check the birth records in the General Register Office (GRO) for Patrick. The local parish priest for the area is another route you could try if you get stuck. You have a full name and a location, so this should narrow down the search.

You should also consider checking under the spelling 'Hannon', which is more common in Ireland.

Another suggestion would be to check the US army records. There is a good chance Patrick had to put in his details when he joined the army.

Also check the newspapers for information in his death notice. Sometimes other family members have more information you are not aware of, so exhaust these first!

    Kind regards,

  • Hello,

There are no Hannon's living in Killimor at the present time. I will check in the local graveyard and speak with local people, before getting back to you again. However, Hannon was the mother'sname, of a former woking collegue of mine, in nearby Portumna. I will make enquiries of him also.

I am a volunteer with the Killimor parish and looking forward to hearing from you,

    regards,

    Iomar Whelan
