Hello Iomar -

Per your request, I've moved this conversation over to this bulletin board.

That's interesting about the Callanan and Head family appearing on a headstone.  I would love to know the details.  What are the names...?

It was also my understanding that the Callanan family is associated with Skecoor in Kiltormer parish.  Do you know if this is true?  Is Skecoor far from Killimor?

Best,

-Phill

Hello again, Phil
Though the family name Slattery is not recorded among the Gravestones in Killimor Cemetary, the Callanan and Head names are.
Head is spelled in three different ways Heade,Headd and Head whereas Callanan is recorded twice. Of the five Killimor gravestones, townland- names are omitted from two, while Slateford,Kylemore and Whitegates are recorded on the other three.
Whitegates (not to be confused with Whitegate in County Clare)is also in Tynagh parish and therefore suggests a family connection with the Slattery's of Tynagh.
I hope to make contact with the families soon,
Happy St Patrick's Day,Phil

Hi Iomar - Many thanks for this information. I need to find these townlands on my maps. I know that Winifred Callanan was born around 1809. Her father was Michael Callanan and her mother was Mary Head. Not exactly sure which townland she was born in. She also had three sisters: Bridget, Catherine and Mary. I don't know who they married or if they stayed in Ireland.

BTW, Caught part of the England-Ireland match on Saturday. Can't believe it...

Best, -PhillMessage in Sent

Hello again, Phil
I believe it would be more beneficial Phil, if we communicated through the website above,as other parish volunteers also observe this site. With the finding of the Callanan and Head surnames on a particular headstone,in killimor graveyard,I believe we are making progress on your family tree.I got this information from Mike Starr, possibly a relative of yours. When speaaking with the Quinn family, who live in the area, near Whitegates, they spoke of the existence of 17 families, no longer present here.Though I have no information on the Slattery Family,I am a waiting news of my enquiries in Tynagh.

  • Hi All,

I am looking for ancestors and any information regarding Martin W Head. He emigrated to the USA in 1840. I know he married Bridget Curley. Both of their fathers were from co Galway named John and born around 1810 - 1815. I have the complete USA family tree. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am headed to Ireland in February and would like to spend some time seeing some of my roots.

    Thanks

    Curtis
