Looking for information about my great grandparents Patsy Walsh b. 1848, and Mary Reddington b. 1850. They lived in Curraghmore, near Greenfields. We've visited the home where they lived, where my grandmother and her 8 siblings were born. But we know nothing more of Patsy and Mary - and nothing of anyone before them.

Hi Jeanne,
You might try contacting the local parish priest for assistance. Either the Claran Church or St. Mary's in Headford would be a good place to start. Here's a link to the Killursa parish infomration page: http://www.headford.org/our-community/st-marys-parish.html
Kind regards,

Thanks for the link. I e-mailed back a few months ago, but unfortunately have had no reply. The links to the parish newsletters don't appear to be live any longer.
Additionally, my late cousin who grew up and lived in Claran told me years back that the church records were destroyed by the Black & Tans when they came through Tuam in 1920.

JeanneB, my great, great grandfather was born somewhere in County Mayo in ca. 1819. I have a solid record of him in Liverpool where he married Bridget McHugh is 1849. (Her parents were Anthony and Catherine McHugh, living then in Liverpool.) Michael was listed as a widower from Ireland, with parents Owen and Mary. Family tradition says we are out of County Mayo and I find today a pile of Reddingtons in Mayo, a few in County Galway.
I am following up on a lead re. a Michael Reddington who was married in Swinford in 1837. Is it possible that his wife, Mary Dempsey, died due to the famine (564 are buried at the Swinford Workhouse as the result of a single disease event), making Michael a widower?
Any leads would be appreciated.
