The highlight of our trip to Ireland in September was meeting our distant relatives in Kiltormer! With the help of Ireland Reaching out, Mary McLaughlin, John Joe Conwell and Mary Lynch, we were able to re-connect.
I had been to and stayed on the farm over 40 years ago and never thought I would ever be able to see it again! You see, Mary Muldoon passed away and had no children...the only connection was her sister Ann Finnerty. We met Nuala and John McGoldrick who now own the home. Nuala is Mary's niece and inherited it from Mary!
We also met the rest of the Finnerty clan. Nuala's sisters Martina and Ann, brother Michael and her sister-in-law Tricia and some of their children and grand children. They showed us their farm, made us a lovely Irish meal and we looked through old photos and got to know them. We helped them complete their “family tree”, which they had been working on.
The trip of a lifetime for sure!!!
