Hello,

I’m currently researching the Fallon side of my family who lived in Rhinn, parish of Killeely, Co Galway. I’ve been able to trace them back to Redmond Fallon (ab. 1798 - 1864) on his death certificate it says ‘Cahercon’ which I believe is a townland near Kinvara. I was wondering if anyone knew of any Fallons that lived in this area or had any records of Fallons in Cahercon. Also, if anyone knows what church/graveyards are near Cahercon that would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Rachel

  • Rachel,

I attach a record of the townland of Cahercon - Barony of Kiltartan which has a John Fallon farming there in early 1850's - Griffith's Valuation printed in 1855.

He is renting the land from the Kilkelly estate and the Gregory estate.

Do you have the names of Redmond Fallon's parents?

    Regards,

  • In the Tithe Applotment Books for Co. Galway, there were two heads of household named Redmond Fallon. One of them was in Rhen, parish of Kilkeely.

  • Not sure if you have this...

In 1855, Redmond Fallon was a head of household living in Rinn in Griffith's Valuation:

  • Thanks Patricia and McCoy for your responses . Unfortunately I don’t know Redmond’s parents names. He’s buried in Killeely Church (died in 1864) and on his gravestone it says his Wife’s name was Mary Connelly and his son was Martin Fallon (my Great Grandfather x2) I also know he had another son called Robert Fallon who married Nora Martin. There was also potentially a third son called Patrick Fallon who died at 22 years old in 1869. All of them lived in Rhinn/Rinn.

I have no other links to cahercon as of yet but it’s intriguing that it’s on his death cert and I think it is the most likely place his parents were from. I’ll do more research into John Fallon.

    Thanks again!

  • Rachel,

I attach a copy of the marriage of Martin Fallon in 1869. He is recorded as Rhinn. Civil birth record for a Redmond Fallon 1871 - Father - Martin Fallon.

Do you have the death record for Redmond Fallon in Cahercon. Does it say whether married, widower, single. The index records him as 63 years.

The first name "Redmond" was common in East County Galway.  Source: Subscription site www.findmypast.ie

  • Rachel,

Attached record of 1901 Irish Census for "Fallon" in Cahercon. None of the three men are married.

You may get information from the relatives of the person recorded on Form B1
