Received email concerning Ireland Reaching Out in Galway.  My ancestors were from Irvilloughter Estate, Ashcragh, Galway.  What parish would that be?  I tried to look it up on your list of parishes unsuccessfully.  Does this fall in the South-East Galway Project?

  • My ancestors, the Mannions & Gradys, were also from there. Did your ancestors leave in 1849 as part of the forced emigration?

  • I may be related to Denis Grady who is listed as a passenger on the Sea Bird, which sailed in 1848 from Galway. I read that all the residents of Ahascragh, Clonmacnowen, Galway received assisted passae in 1848. In 1849 others sailed on a ship called Northumberland  to Quebec, Canada.

I know some of my ancestors were married in that province before relocating to Ontario, where I reside. Do you have any more details? Whist are the first name(s) of the Gradys you are related to?

  • My Mannions were on the Northumberland with the Gradys. Margaret Grady, my 3rd Great Grandmother was married to Patrick Mannion. They brought their children John, Patrick, Malachi, Thomas (my 2nd Great Grandfather), and Mary. Margaret's brothers Thomas Grady and Leonard Peter Grady (Gready) were with them.
