Hello,

Seems like a GREAT sight and a GREAT project.  I am planning on a visit to Galway in September and would like to visit the home area of my gg-grandfather, Patrick Clancy.  According to www.rootsireland.ie  and other records I have from the US, Patrick was born on 08-Mar-1838 in Oldtown, Moycullen, Co Galway.  Patrick's father's name was Peter Clancy and mother Margaret Clancy.  Any help in getting me to the right location when we get to Moycullen would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Sandra Cummings

  • Lots of Clancy's still living in Moycullen Sandra.  Oldtown is a few miles from Moycullen on the Oughterard/Clifden Road.  I can make some enquiries for you locally if you wish to find which branch of Clancys you are related to.

  • Hi Sandra,

I too am interested in the Clancy family. although the connection to my family is distant. The Clancy families of the Moycullen and Oughterard areas include the mother of Boston mayor James Michael Curley, not sure if you know that. Sarah Clancy, the mayor's parents, was born in the area just south of Oughterard and north of Moycullen. You might be interested in looking up her family tree, some of which is online.

    Good luck ! Chris Mullen
