Wondering if there is any information further on Mary Hernon who was born 1867 in arran Islands to parents Mary Mullin and Patrick Hernon. In my family's files, came accross her birth certificate registered copy dated 1935 stamped in the county Home, Loughrea, Co Galway. She would be my great grandmother. She married Michael Kelly. Also, there is a word "Onaught" on document and don't know what that means - anyone know?

Hello Judy, The word Onaught (Onaght) refers to a specific location on the Island of Inishmore

It is a location often associated with the historic location of the Seven Churches.

Hi Judy
I couldn't find Mary but did find these 3 children of the parents on www.rootsireland.ie/:
I found some Mary Hernon marriages from Arran Islands but none to Michael Kelly or with father Patrick!

Hello Judy,
Mary’s birth in 1867 may be found in the Civil records which are not complete on the Rootsireland site and applying to https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/GRO_Research.aspx for a copy which may verify the certificate you already have.

I am unsure the census returns you were given in a previous post are correct as though they contain details of the father, mother and a Florrie, there is conflicting info as to their literacy levels with the latter census suggesting none of the family can read or write. Another issue is the birth registrations/baptisms of the Kelly children which appear to be absent as does the marriage record. This may in part be due to their more familiar language being the Gaelacht and how their names were actually recorded and transcribed.
If you are trying to establish Mary’s place of burial if indeed she died in Ireland , the historic place of burial in Inishmore would have been the cemetery at the site of the Seven Churches (see aerial view) and if she was buried close to Portrumna the locations would have been either St. Brigid's Catholic Church (Former) or the Calvary Cemetery just outside of the town. Another cemetery St Michael's Portumna Graveyard is of more recent origin and unlikely to be a likely option.
Galway Council has a commitment to indexing their graveyard/cemeteries and are reliant upon the participation of local community groups - http://gccapps.galwaycoco.ie/graveyards/ unfortunately none of the locations I have mentioned are at the moment included. Find a Grave has cemetery pages for all four though the burials recorded are of a more recent date.

Judy,
Mary Anne Hernon is my great, great Grandmother. My mother is Mary Ann Kelly, great granddaughter of Mary and Michael. I know you posted many years ago, but I just ran across this post. My name is Richard Ruth and I live in Florida.
