My father was Patrick Donohue, and grew up in Capira, Portumna and went to school in Boula about 1920's  He had a sister Delia who went to London and I think a brother John /Jack who went to South Africa. My father died when I was a baby. Looking for info on the brother who emigrated . Thanks  so much, Deirdre

    I've had a good look for your Donohues but didn't have much luck I'm afraid.

    I couldn't find a family with all three children either on www.rootsireland.ie/ or on the 1901 or 1911 Irish Census; no luck on ancestry either.

    Family Search has 90 South Africa, Cape Provin...chives Records, 1792-1992; it would be a long process but perhaps John will show up there; I'm not sure what else to suggest other than searching for South African Census records or old phone books.

  • Hi Deirdre,

    I know this is an old post - and I’m not sure how much progress you have made since 2016.  I have found some records that I think you will be interested in relating to a John Donohue, born in Portumna and who died in South Africa in 1984.
