My grandmother was Delia Kenny. She was born in Polshask in 1898. Her sister Nan Kenny remained in Ireland and was living in Williamstown when I met her in July 1980. She passed away not too long after that, but I have conflicting dates - one source I have says November 3, 1983, while another says "autumn" of 1981. One of my cousins is having a new gravestone made for Anne and her brother Martin, and we'd like to verify the actual date before he has the stone made. Would anyone be able to tell me when she passed away? My understanding is that Nan was very well known in the area during her lifetime, so I'm hoping that someone might be able to help us with this.
Thanks in advance!

Ann,
Was your grandmother or mother Mary Kate Fannon?
Thanks

No - my grandmother was Delia Kenny. She was one of 10 Kenny children born in Polshask between 1888 and 1905. Her sister Anne and brother Martin never left Williamstown, but the rest all went to the US.
Martin died in 1976 and Anne died sometime in the early 1980's - one of my cousins is having new grave markers made for Anne and Martin and we want to be sure we have the correct dates for them.

Hello from a neighbour of Nan Kenny. My name is Sadie Dobson nee Collins and I've just seen your post . I knew Nan ,Martin and their respective spouses Pat and Mollie . They were lovely neighbours and good friends, always willing to lend a hand and of course everyone knew Nan and her renowned generosity . I regularly visit Carraroe cemetery where they are buried. There's already a granite headstone in place with inscripted details of Kenny family deaths ,its on a large family rectangular plot surrounded by a granite kerbstone. For many years Its upkeep was tended by a neighbour Maureen Keane. I am still in contact with one of her adopted daughters Martina Casey nee Hickey. I will be visiting polshask next month and can make any inquiries that may help you. I hope this information will be helpful and will be pleased to assist in any way ,if you so wish. Kind regards Sadie Dobson.

Sadie,
Are you a descendant of Patrick Collins and Mary Trears or of his parents, Michael Collins and Mary Connolly? My husband's grandmother was Catherine Collins, sister of Patrick. I have been researching this tree and would love to hear from you.
Sincerely,

Thank you so much Sadie! One of Maggie Kenny's (the oldest of Anne's siblings) grandchildren visited the area earlier this year, saw the gravesite and wanted to replace the stone. He's in the process of finalizing the details - we want to verify the dates before they are literally carved in stone.
I met Nan once, in 1980, and she was every bit as delightful as you descibe. The photo I've attached was taken that day - it is Nan with my dad. The Kenny's are on my mom's side - she was Deli9a's daughter Anne. The woman to the left in the photo is Delia's daughter Catherine, and her daughter Peggy is on the right.
Please give our thanks to Maureen Keane if she's still around, and give my regards to Martina.

Hi Frank
I asked my sister but she couldn't remember the exact date. As mentioned above, Martina Casey nee Hickey, one of 5 girls fostered by Anne Kenny, may be your best bet as she and 3 of her other foster sisters, attended the funeral. I've asked my mother today, to pass on details of this site and forum to Martina.

Hi Wendy..I don't think I'm connected to the folks you mentioned as my family names included Moore lyons Hevican...and I've never heard a Patrick mentioned in any generation. I'm aware of a Trears family in the district and Connolly families with numerous different spellings and sounding different too. I will be pleased to help in any way possible... village names are a good starting pointand most of these have on-line parish newsletter s with telephone numbers that may be helpful. Will be pleased to help anytime. Sadie
