My greatgrandparents David Murphy and Honora Callaghan were married in 1862 at Causeway Parish. They are listed as David Murphy of Ardfert and Hanora Callaghan of Rattoo. I have found Honora's family in Ballyduff, but cannot find David's in the Parish of Ardfert as their records don't go that far back. Can anyone explain to me if I am interpreting Ardfert correctly? Could it be an area around Causeway instead of the town of Ardfert by Tralee? Honora is listed from Rattoo, but was from Ballyduff. I'd appreciate any help understanding this.

  • Hi, thanks for your message.

From looking at the division of Co. Kerry into it's Catholic parishes on the irishtimes website, it would appear that Ardfert and Causeway are two seperate parishes in the area althought they are quite near to each other. You can see this at this link:

  • Recently I posted a query about my greatgrandparents David Murphy and Honora Callaghan who were married on February 12, 1862 at Causeway Parish.  They are listed as David Murphy of Ardfert and Hanora Callaghan of Rattoo.  I have found Honora's records in Ballyduff, but didn't find David's in Ardfert.  Now with some help I have found on the irishgenealogy.ie site, a David Murphy's baptism on May 26, 1844 in the townland Clounafinela, RC Parish of Abbeydorney, Civil Parish Kilflyn, Poor Law Union Tralee.  His parents were Michael Murphy and Mary Sullivan.  I also found a Mary Murphy's baptism on March 7, 1836 with the same parents, in the townland Carough, RC Parish of Abbeydorney, Civil Parish Kilflyn, Tralee.  My problem now is that RC Parish of Abbeydorney only has Baptisms 1835-1900 and Marriages 1837-1900.  Michael Murphy and Mary Sullivan's baptism and marriage aren't in their records on irishgenealogy.ie.  Should I write to the Parish to see if they have more records?  Thanks for any help you can give me.
