I am researching the Blennerhasset family of County Kerry. They emigrated to Connecticut, USA about 1862 or 1863, and then removed to Massachusetts, USA  in 1871. It would be great to find out more about the family in County Kerry.  (They were supposedly connected to Ballyseedy Castle.)

Thanks for any assistance.  -Lorie

  • Hi there,

Thank you very much for your query to Ireland Reaching Out.

You should check the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) for information related to Arthur. Blennerhassett is not a common name, so it shouldn't be too difficult to find him if he is listed there.

You could also check the 1824 trade directory called: J. Pigot and Co., City of Dublin and Hibernian Provincial Directory, from the National Library of Ireland. Or Church of Latter Day Saints film 451787.

Hope this is of some help.

    Kind regards,

    Sinead Cooney

    Hi,

Check out www.churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie and just key in 'Arthur Blennerhasset' and for location just insert 'Kerry'.

You can omit date. There will be a great return for you. One Arthur was baptised in 1825. The name can still be found in the Ballymacelligot/Clogher/Gortaclea area and the nearby town of Tralee. (North Kerry). They would have been wealthy land owners one time. The Huggards were landlords in South Kerry. The 'Lake Hotel', Killarney, Co. Kerry. is still owned by the Huggard family. Both families were of the Church of Ireland faith. On that website you will find many records. You have an interesting history to follow up.

  • Hi again Lori,

I just bought a copy of an archived books cd on Kerry history. It contains scanned pages from two volumes. The two books together give, among other information, the Blennerhasst history and pedigree from England to Ireland and all the marriages and estates where they lived. It even refers to the branch that emigrated to America. It would answer all your questions.

    You can visit www.archivedbooks.ie

This particular cd is: 'Selections from Old Kerry Records (2 vols, 1872-74) by Mary Agnes Hickson

    The ISBN is 1-84630-057-6

It contains both historical and genealogical information. The cd is not expensive. I paid a discounted price of 12 euro for it at a genealogy promotion.

    Good luck.

  • Hello Lorie have you found anymore out? It appears I am related to some fo the people you are researching. Here is some information on me and my connection via my fathers side. Arthur Blennerhassett was my 4th great grandfather, Mary Ann Blennerhassett was my 3rd great grandmother. Her Father was Arthur, she married a Mcadoo.
then connects to my 2nd great grandmother Lillian Mcadoo then to my great grandfather Robert William Mead, then my grandfather Robert William Mead II, then my father David Randolph Mead. After they left Ireland they all lived in USA (MA, then NJ, NY).
Thank you for any information or direction you can provide! And if I can help you I will. Happy New year! email me at kymeads721@gmail.com

    best wishes, Dave Mead
