My grandmother's grandparents were Michael J. Sullivan, of Kenmare, & Annie Husbands, both born 1853.  They married 1872 in Sneem.  In 1883, their family came to the USA & settled in Quincy, near Boston.

Most of their children were born in Kenmare: Margaret (1873), Mary (1874), Ellen (1876), Richard (1878), Dennis (1881), & Anna (1883); the rest were born in Quincy: Catherine (1885), Elizabeth (1888), Michael (1890), & Louise (1892).  Margaret & Ellen both seem to have died in Ireland before the family immigrated.

Michael was the son of Richard Sullivan, of Dromneavane, & Margaret Dineen, of Killowen, daughter of John Dineen & Mary Sullivan.  They married 1845 in Kenmare.  Margaret (b. ca. 1810) died a widow, in Quincy, in 1890.  I believe that Richard must have died in Ireland.  I don't know the names of his parents.

I have the following children for Richard & Margaret:

  • Richard, b. 1845 in Dromneavane
  • Helen, b. 1846 in Rockville
  • Dennis, b. 1848 in Killowen; he preceeded Michael to the USA, & d. in Quincy
  • Michael, b. 1853 in Kenmare

  • Hi, I am reaching back to my Irish ancestors in Sneem and Sullivans are on the tree!  I'm wondering if you have information moving forward from Boston, such that I might find a connection.  Otherwise, I believe I have found my Sullivans living in Eskine, Sneem, alongside our other ancestors, the Foleys, O'Sheas, McGoverns and Fitzgeralds.  Any information you might have to help us connect the later generations in the US with the earlier generations in Sneem would be appreciated! :) Thanks!

  • I should point out, I have no knowledge of my Sullivans living in Sneem.  My Michael Sullivan's wife, Annie Husbands, was from Sneem.  But, they are neighboring areas, so they could still be related.

I have my US immigrant Michael Sullivan's children & their spouses on my tree online at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=amich&id=I314

I only have his daughter Louise's children listed online, but there were other grandchildren.  Michael's children Mary, Dennis, Anna, & Elizabeth also had children.  I have the names of them, and some of their descendants, as well.  If you wanted those, I can provide that as well.  Michael & his children, & the majority of his grandchildren never left Massachusetts.

Immigrant Dennis Sullivan, my Michaels' brother, had 2 children born in Quincy, Mass., but both died very young.  Margaret (1874-1878) & Richard (1877-1877).
