I'm searching for descendants of the Cronin family referenced here. I've tracked down many of the Canadian and American descendants of Denis (of which I am one) but would like to find as many of the others as I can and have hit a bit of a brick wall. Any help and/or pointers would be much appreciated.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Cronin is an extremely common surname in Killarney parish. The 1852 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing showed 38 Cronin households in the parish.

Hopefully, others will see your message and post their interests.

Do you know if the brothers of Denis stayed in Ireland or emigrated? Have you considred autosomal DNA testing?

  • Greetings Roger,

No, sorry, I don't know anything about any of Denis' siblings. I'm hoping to get some help in tracking them down.

Regarding DNA testing, I've taken both the Ancestry DNA test as well as a more limited one from Family Tree DNA. I'm also on gedmatch.com, kit number A789581.

I am also a Cronin. We are looking for our family relations James and Ellen ?Cronin. We also do not have any information as to where they came from in Ireland. However, during my search I just came up with Cronins in Buttevant Ireland. This is significant to me because my Great Grandfather John Cronin (1847 -1898) married Annie Lenahan (1849-1902) they lived  in here in Brooklyn  NY.  While researching the Lenahan side I came across a James Cronin (1862) Baptism in Buttevant, Cloyne. I believe the parents name were father Ds? Cronin and mother Doh? O"Brien.  Even though it is not my James Cronin I found in the Baptism page an entry with Elizabeth, Ellen ons other Cronins. I don't knwo if this helps but I would like to keep in touch.  We are on the same search and in the saem area it seems so we might be related. Margaret Cronin Hannan pegcrohan@yahoo.com

PS I had an Uncle Robert.  My brother Tom and I both took tgeh DNA test.

  • Pleased to meet you Margaret. Which DNA test did you take? If you have the option to download your raw results and upload them to gedmatch it might possibly help knowing to what extent we're related (or not). I've taken two tests, one with ancestry.com and another with familysesarch.org. Only ancestry provided the ability to download my raw results.
