I'm looking for information on my great grandfather Patrick Kelleher (Patt Keliher) who was born about 1840 in Daugh. He married Mary McElligott who was born on February 15, 1843. They had 8 to 11 children (Bridget 1864, Catherine 1865, Timothy 1866, Joanna 1867, Maurice 1872, Mary 1874, Honora 1875, Josephine 1875, Patrick 1877, Peter 1879, and Denis 1880). Patrick emigrated in 1884 and came to Chicago, Illinois USA with some of the children his wife did the same in 1886 with more of the children but left 2 children (Denis and Mary) in an orphanage who eventually came too. Some of the dates might not be right but are not too far off.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I located the marriage record on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie and they were married in August 1858 (see below) so did Mary marry at age 15 and 1/2? Maybe she was born earlier. I did find a February 13, 1837 baptismal record in Duagh. Parents were Maurice McElligott and Julia Donoghue. See below. For some reason, I can't locate any of the baptismal records for the children of Patrick and Mary.

I also found the 1880 civil birth record for Denis. (See link below) The family was living in Toor townland in Duagh civil parish.

Let me know what questions you have.

  • Thank you for the information. I can't seem to find anything on Patrick Kelleher. I did find a few more of the children's birth records on the irishgeneology website. Any other information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
