My name is Robert Dunne. I may have sent this info before, but I am not sure message went through.
My mother's father's name was James Mahoney. He was born in Carrick-on-Suir. As I recall he was amember of the "Tipperary Stone Throwers" That is all the info I have on him, except that he did make several trips back to Ireland in later life. He passed away in 1973.
My GreatGrandfather"s name was also James Mahoney. The information I have on him is that he was involved in establishing a "Finian" group some time in the mid 1800's. He also travelled back and forth to America and Ireland. He was reported to be out on "the night', sometime in March, 1867, and was taking part in a large protest. I believe he passed away in the mid 1920's. Wish I had more.

Do you know what age your grandfather was when he died? This will help narrow down his year of birth which will make it easier in terms of finding church/civil records.
Once you have a date of birth you could try looking for him in civil records which are available from the General Register Office. Here are their contact details:

The indexes to these records up to 1958 are online. I did a quick search but without more information it is impossible to narrow down which are relevant to you:

This will be of more use to you when you have narrowed down date of birth.
Once you have date of birth you could also try searching for the family online in the 1911 census records. If you can find them these records may give you some new information:
