I am seeking anything about my ancestors in Ireland.  The information I know is as follows:

My 4x great grandfather, James Hart (b. abt 1784) married Mary Crawford.  They had eleven children all said to be born in Tyrone, Ireland.  Of those children, one child, Elizabeth Hart who married a William Walker and stayed in Ireland.  The remaining children went to Vaughan, York, Ontario, Canada.  The family immigrated in 1846 to the Ontario area.  It is found on an old family tree that this family was at Castlefinn - Strabane and Donegal.   When looking at a map from 1820, it makes some sense with exception of the counties.  It may help to have the children's names, Elizabeth, Samuel, Thomas, William, Robert, Mary Jane, Margret, John, May, and James.  Of these children, I have much information on most, but cannot locate Elizabeth (walker) Hart.   Most importantly, I would like some information that says this family was really in Ireland.  I also know the family was Presbyterian.  James (1784) was a linen weaver, Samuel was a shoemaker, William was a farmer.    Samuel married Christine Malloy in Ontario, William married Isabella Cunningham, also in Ontario.

  • Hi Janet,

There is a record of the baptism of James Hart in 1781 in Antrim on www.rootsireland.ie/

It is possible to check the parish and it was Shankill Saint Anne's Belfast Church of Ireland.

It costs to view the full record on rootsireland but it should have his father's name.

There was no record of the marriage to Mary Crawford in any county

There are 34 matches for children of James Hart & Mary (blank  -but  not Crawford) 1809 + - 10 years and 92 for + - 20 years but onlu 1 in Tyrone.

There was 1 match for Mary Crawford born 1800 + - 6 years in Tyrone: 1801; the parish wasn't Donoughmore however.

The Tithe Applotments 1823-37 (free online) have 784 Harts in all counties and 30 in Donegal; Antrim is not included unfortunately.

  • Thank you us so much.   This narrows the search even more.  I have looked at the Tithes but with little certainty.   Family search.org verified the names on birth records of there children so I am certain on the names..  What a joyful adventure, especially with people like you so willing to assist.  Much appreciated.
