Looking for any history in relation to GGrandfather John McKay. It is my belief that he was born Abt 1826 in Kildare Ireland. At some stage he went to Australia and Married Emma Bryant (some spelling variations) Born 14/07/1839  on the 18/08/1878 in Carcoar NSW. In the 1860's they were on the Kings Plains Gold Fields.

Any help much appreciated.

Kind Regards,

David

  • Hi David

Just saw your query.  Can you expand on your details a bit please?  Why you think he was from Kildare?  Have you found him on a ships register emigrating to Australia?  Do you have a marriage certificate / record for John McKay and Emma Bryant?  Or any certificates relating to them?

More questions than answers to start I'm afraid!

Hope to hear back from you.

  • Hi Linda,

Thank you for getting back to me, I have a death certificate that state he was born in Kildare Ireland, He was 76 yrs old at the time of his Death on the 2nd May 1901.

I have him marrying Emma Bryant (there are some variants of the spelling) but in relation to both of them all details on the marriage certificate are "Not Stated"

Don't have much more than that, other than that they had some ten children and made news on the gold fields in 1860 when accused of "Stealing in a dwelling house"

Any help you can be would be hugely appreciated.

    Kind Regards

    David
