According to my information, John O'GRADY (c1812-1888) was born at 'Liffey View' Roseberry, Newbridge, Kildare, Ireland, son of Laurence O'GRADY born c1780 and Mary MAHER born c1780 and died 1864 Newbridge, Kildare. It seems that Bridget OWENS was the daughter of Peter OWENS born c1791 Newbridge, Kildare & died Enniskillen, Ireland(?)1858 and Jean FORCEY born c1791 Renfrewshire, Scotland? & died 1862. John O'GRADY & Bridget OWENS married 1 Feb 1841 Newbridge, Kildare. They arrived Sydney, New South Wales, on the ship 'Theresa' 25 Aug 1842 as assisted immigrants. Apparently the 'Liffey View' property is still occupied by O'Grady descendants. Patrick, a second great grandson still resides there (??). Margaret O'GRADY 1847-1929, the fourth child of John & Bridget, was my great grandmother, thus making John & Bridget second great grandparents. I intend to visit Ireland in the next 12-18 months and in particular would like to visit the birthplaces and residential areas of my forebears. I would very much appreciate advice on gathering more information and possibly contacting any Irish relatives. Kind regards, Shirley Turner (sturner2701@gmail.com)

Hi Shirley and welcome to Ireland XO. I'd like to try and help if I can. To get started could you just clarify or confirm a few things please?
Do you have documentary evidence for the information you have uncovered so far and if so can you confirm what you have please? It would be really helpful to know how you confirmed John O'Grady's birth and death and how you know who his parents were. It would also be a huge help to know if John had any siblings? If you want to email the details to me that's fine.
All the best for now.

Hi Linda,
Some of my information re the O'Grady's was passed on to me by a 2nd cousin in Nov 2014, i.e., "the O'Grady family is from Roseberry, Newbridge, County Kildare. The Property is named "Liffey View" and is still occupied by O'Grady descendants. Patrick, a Great/gr/grandson still resides there." Also have a transcript and image of the marriage registration (see attached) of John O'Grady and Bridget Owens, 1 Feb 1841 at Newbridge, Co Kildare. John O'GRADY aged 30 yrs; Witness 1: Pat GRADY; Witness 2: Margaret FLOOD. I have transcripts of Bridget Owens death (7 Sep 1912) & John O'Grady's death (19 Jun 1888) registrations (see attached). Also attached copy of passenger listings Shipping Arrival_Theresa 25 Aug 1842_John & Bridget GRADY. I believe Philip O'GRADY born 06 Apr 1820 Newbridge Co Kildare was one of John's siblings but I do not have documentary evidence at present.
Regards, Shirley
