Below is the civil marriage index record for Christopher and Catherine. You cna contact the GRO to get a copy of this record for about 4 euros. The records will shows the names of the fathers of the bride and groom and where they were living in 1873. Go to this link http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx   Hit the link for marriage certicates in English. You may get a screen asking for a User Name and Password. Hit cancel. The form should come up. Fill out the form and also provide the year of marriage, registration district (Naas) and the volume and page number ( 17 and 801). Make sure you ask for a copy. You can also ask the GRO to e-mail the copy to you.

  • Hi, thanks for this Roger. I have already tried this avenue and online certs only go back to 1920! I am trying to see if anybody recognises this family link as what I really want to find out is names of their parents so I can go back another generation! I'll keep trying re cert. Lots of these ancestor sites can do it but they charge £40 to do it! Fingers crossed

For certs prior to 1901, you have to mail the form to the GRO. You can have them e-mail the copy back. Process usually takes 10-14 days but I'm sure the Holidays will impact delivery time.

  • Thanks for the info above. I believe they could be family. I am in the process of obtaining the marriage cert for Christopher Finn and Catherine Kelly in approx 1850 (need to verify there is only one Catherine Kelly in Suncroft at this time). I have found some other info on the web with regards to Catherine Kelly as she was born in Suncroft. In order to verify I need to get records and the only info I have is that they belonged to Suncroft Catholic Church which I have googled and have found a church of a different name? I believe Catherine's parents were William Kelly and Eliza Dillion (aka Betty) m 1841 and Eliza's parents were Maurice Dillion who married a Kitty (no surname given) m 1813. I may be in luck as it seems Catherine and her family all lived in Suncroft so hopefully can trace further back. Until I get the marriage cert I am yet unclear where Christopher Finn was born and where his family are from and this is definitely Catherine Kelly's family.

Also does anybody have any idea where they would have travelled from to get to England? I believe it must have been between late 1878 (last child born in Ireland June 1878) and next child born in Croydon in 1880.

Any ideas where I can go for this info? Any help would be much appreciated
